Yeast is a very common microscopic fungus. Yeast infections are one of the most common skin conditions and can manifest anywhere on the skin, but the moisture and the temperature of the ears creates a favorable environment for it to grow. Some conditions make pets more susceptible to yeast infections such as having a low thyroid or otherwise compromised immune system. Anything that produces more moisture in the ear, like food allergies, bathing or swimming, can encourage yeast growth and infection as well.
