The dad of a young woman who died after taking an overdose of diet pills embarked on a 1,500 mile journey to confront the Ukranian man who sold them to her online. Doug Shipsey is fighting an uphill battle for justice for his daughter Beth, two years after she fatally overdosed on dinitrophenol (DNP) at the age of 21. The 53-year-old has now come face-to-face with Andrei Shepelev, who admitting hiding the pills in a DVD case and shipping them to Beth in the UK. The grieving dad travelled all the way from his family home in Worcester, Mail Online reports. Holding a framed photograph of Beth, Doug told the dealer: “I want you to look into my daughter’s eyes and apologise for selling her the pills that killed her.” In response, Shepelev, 31, told him: “I’m sorry, but I just wanted to make some money. "I’m sorry I’m not crying, but I can say I feel sorry. If I knew your daughter would [die] I would never sell her anything.” He then added: ”After deaths, sales go up four or five times, but I didn’t sell to the UK after this moment.” Mr Shipsey said he struggled to contain his rage when he met Shepelev. “I didn’t know how [Shepelev] would react – I though he might pull out an AK-47 and shoot me,” he said. “When I stood in the door of Shepelev’s flat, with its walls stained yellow from his drug production, I had to restrain myself from wanting to wring his neck. “But that’s not me – I just wanted him to admit what he’s done, and apologise for it to Beth’s family, while looking into her eyes and mine. I want to send a message to other dealers in death – we, the relatives of their victims, will come for them.” An inquest last year ruled that Beth had taken her own life after struggling with severe mental health problems. She was sexually assaulted and raped by her ex-boyfriend Barry Finch, 23, who confessed and was convicted of rape and jailed for six years in August 2015. On the day of her death, she messaged a friend with tear emojis and wrote: "I have just overdosed on DNP. “I’m petrified of telling anyone because it is like my 15th overdose." Bethany died on a hospital trolley in an overcrowded A&E department, an inquest heard. Her last words were "mum, mum, mum." Doug and his wife Carole Shipsey have rejected the coroner’s suicide ruling and argue that evidence points to Beth’s overdose being a “cry for help”.
